Hot Momma Nicole

Here are some behind the scenes photos from yesterday's shoot. Smart Parenting magazine is featuring Nicole for their September issue and she decided to invite her girlfriends to be part of the photo shoot. So we all got dolled   up  in candy colors  for the baby shower themed pictorial at Marta's Cakes.   In the middle of the storm, we  tried our very best to   bring our sunny dispositions to the shoot. The shoot took longer than expected, perhaps because we kept chit chatting the whole time.(Ano ba yan, unprofessional mowwwdels! Hahaha)  It was also great to finally sit down and catch up with Karen,  although she's younger than us--I've always been so impressed by how sensible she is.  And yes, I am a midget compared to this gigantasaurus! I kid, I kid! Peace!:) Check out our fun  BTS photos below! Thanks again to all the wonderful stylists who helped us yesterday.

I remember back in high school, Nicole was everyone's ultimate crush. My friends and their brothers, and their brothers' friends' brothers all  drooled over this sweet faced Woodroser. As her friend, it's been wonderful to witness her transformation from  "teen crush" to a  "glowing mommy". Pregnancy has been so kind to her and I can honestly say she's at her most beautiful womanly state right now.         And more than anything, Nicole just radiates peace and happiness--kudos to her hubby for doing such a good job! I'm lucky because the positive vibes have rubbed off on me too and  to all her other friends.   She's the type of  friend who will text you  at a random time  if she remembers something that could help you--she's so practical and specific and really remembers everything to the last detail!   I remember one time she even brought me to a home store and showed me  everything from hangers, dish organizers, to garlic crushers--it was such a simple gesture but something I truly appreciated. I'm very clueless about A LOT of things and entering marriage has made me even more nervous, often times I'm embarrassed to ask questions because they seem so common-sensical and elementary for some--but Nicole has been very patient in explaining everything to me and I've really picked up a lot of valuable tips (and confidence!) from her. Nic, I'm sure you will become an awesome MOM (a little cuckoo in the head--but still awesome)! A few months to go!:)

Fashion Friday: Wanderlust

Everyone's favorite local swimwear line, WANDERLUST by beauty queen slash model mommy Maggie Wilson, has a new collection out called Arabian Summer. Inspired by the many years she spent in the Middle East as a child, this collection is definitely hot hot hot!

"Having grown up in Jeddah, Maggie has always been enamored of the sights and delights of this coastal city. In her hopes of sharing her wondrous experiences growing up and being such a lover of the sun and sea, she shares with every woman Wanderlust’s new and beguiling ARABIAN SUMMER swimsuit collection—characterized by bold cuts, enticing silhouettes and striking prints. ARABIAN SUMMER stirs memories harking back to the days under the marvelous Arabian sun, with swimsuit pieces bursting in joyous colors of blue and teal that call to mind the sea; dark green that evoke memories of those swaying palm trees back; brown and orange, a throwback to the mysteries of the endless sand; and red for those blazing desert sunsets. The collection also carries prints that echo the Arabian ghutrah, the traditional Arab headdress, and material reminiscent of traditional handmade fabric used in cushions and carpets."

Wanderlust sent me a few pieces the other day and I was amazed to see how figure flattering they actually are!!! No joke! It was a good kind of surprise actually. And to think I do not have the typical svelte model's body..I've got boobies, short legs, and lots of "soft" bits here and there (i refuse to use the F word--FAT!) but the Wanderlust suits made me feel comfortable and sexy in my own skin. I'll be honest, I was a bit intimidated at first when I encountered the brand---I even thought to myself, "Naku baka naman all the swimsuits are for model types with slender frames like Maggie Wilson lang! I don't think babagay yan sa mga chunky monkeys tulad ko!". But surprise, surprise the suits fit me perfectly! I'm just waiting for the rainy season to end so I can host another pool parteeeyyyy at home :)

For years, I had to order my swimsuits from a brand abroad because I couldn't find good quality but affordable suits in Manila. All the good ones were simply too expensive, I couldn't get myself to spend that much moolah for such a teeny weeny piece of clothing. Wanderlust's swimwear are well-priced and within a decent range that won't hurt your wallet too much. It's not dirt cheap of course because it's still durable material that you're paying for.

I love their one piece suits the best, they make you feel like a 50s pin up girl in an instant. I was definitely channeling my inner Marilyn Monroe when I was fitting them. But if you're a bikini kind of girl, you can choose to Mix and Match. You can select different styles and colors and also make adjustments for the sizes. If like me, you're top heavy and a bit smaller on the hips, then you can opt to get a size bigger for your top and get something more snug for the bottom. Just visit the Wanderlust website to find the style, color, and size for you.

You could win one of these sexy swimsuits from WANDERLUST!

Wedding Wednesday: Developing a Relationship with Your Designer

Every modern Filipina bride wants to be a VJF bride. Just scope out twitter and you'll see so many brides-to-be clamoring for this young designer. What's not to love about his designs?? They're tastefully crafted, figure flattering, and oh-so feminine! He makes the dresses that girls actually like to wear. Of course, only a few are lucky enough to actually call themselves a VJF bride..and I'm one of those lucky girls!!! As I've mentioned before, my wedding gown is by Barcelona based designer Rosa Clara and Veejay Floresca will be designing my reception dress and also Patrick's whole ensemble.

His work speaks for itself and just by looking at the photos below, I'm sure you're SOLD. But one thing worth mentioning about Veejay is his character--and for brides, this is something you should definitely consider when choosing a designer. Your wedding dress is possibly one of the most important (if not the most important) highlights of the wedding. All eyes will be on you so there is definitely a lot of pressure on the dress, hence, causing most of the stress. I've heard (and witnessed first hand) lots of horror stories concerning wedding dresses--stress that could have been easily avoided if the bride chose a designer who is not only talented but who is also known for dealing with clients professionally and lovingly. In my many fittings with Veejay, I've always left his atelier with a big smile and never a crumpled forehead. So this made me think of the qualities a bride should look for in a designer, and here's what I've got so far! For the future brides, be sure to keep these little tips handy.

For a bride, there is nothing more comforting than to see a designer who's very hands on. It immediately puts you at ease to know that the designer you chose is on top of every little detail and is in full control. Veejay is soooooo hands on, in every fitting he is present and gives instructions to his workers right on the spot. Whenever Veejay is out of the country, he sends his skilled assistants to take care of never feel like you're going through the process alone.

A professional designer is a flexible one. If PLAN A doesn't work, a designer should have PLAN B and C ready for execution. But a word of caution to the brides--- by flexible, this doesn't mean though that he will just give in to your every whim and cater to your evey demand. Most brides are fickle minded (guilty!) and often times, their ideas of the perfect dress will change and change and change again. This is a nightmare for designers and can cause a lot of conflict. A true professional will welcome the requests, find a middle ground but will also stand firm with his design aesthetic.

A good designer is one who listens to the needs of the bride. If there is a particular feature the bride would like to hide or flaunt, then a professional designer would be willing to address these specifics and incorporate it into the design. Since I'm 5'3, I was very particular about the skirt part of my reception dress. I didn't want to have a ball gown skirt because this would only drown out my very petite frame. Veejay understood this and made the perfect silhouette that gave the illusion of height.

Your designer will be your shrink from time to time. They will be your sounding board when you're feeling stressed so it's nice to develop good rapport with your designer. Although Veejay has accolades to boast of, he always keeps a very down-to-earth and accessible demeanor. He is not at all intimidating kahit sikat na sikat na siya, which for me helps so much!

Veejay will call, tweet, text, email, and even skype his bride if need be just to talk about the smallest flower detail on your dress. He also has an assistant, Ms Annie, who sends me updates via text which helps a lot!

This is very important!!! During our first meeting, Veejay, Patrick and I plotted out the timeline for the wedding and we blocked off all the fitting dates early on. And so far we are on schedule with everything.

You don't want your groom running away when you come waltzing down the aisle. Your fiance popped the question because he wanted to marry YOU---so that means he loves you the way you are and wouldn't want you to pretend to be someone else. Sure, it's easy to get carried away with all the wedding pegs and celebrity looks--but at the end of the day, you have to go for a dress that still represents you as a person.

My New Domain

After one million years and a couple of emails from readers pestering me, I finally decided to change my domain--here it is!! The only downside though is that all my FB likes on my previous posts disappeared too--huhuhu! But that's ok, a small price to pay for the new addy! Now I'm TOO LEGIT, TOO LEGIT TO QUIT! You can now simply type this address and you will be redirected to my blog site. Same old blog in a whole new address!:) I took the liberty of making a whole rainbow just so that it burns right into the deepest, darkest crevices of your brain! COLOR! COLOR! KAPOW! KAPOW! There's NO escaping the rainbowwwww!!!
Now that I have my own dot com, I feel like  a superduperstar!!! I think I could be the next OPRAH!!! Look at that, we're practically TWINS!! HELLOOOOO!!??! I'm surprised they haven't featured me on a "Separated at Birth" story with Mommy O! Of course she has curly hair and I have straight hair--but come on you have to admit, the resemblance is just uncanny! hahaha :)
Ang galing ko talaga mag-photoshop. Sometimes I just wanna high five myself. Now, if you are STILL having difficulty remembering my new web address here's a simple formula--You have "www" then MY NAME then a dot com! Get it, get it? Hindi pa rin?!?!?! Ok, ok, I'll make it EVEN EASIER so here's a friendly chart armed with visual aids that will serve as your guide.
Still don't get it?!?!? Damnit, I give up!

Happiness for Others

It's funny how a simple tweet from Cat firmly validated everything I've been feeling these past few months---IMMENSE and INTENSE happiness for the people around me. Just like Cat, I am a sucker for happy moments and I love celebrating milestones both big and small. I'm that annoying friend on Instagram who gets gigil over your babies and posts useless comments like "GAAAHHHH!" or "HOMAYGADANGKYOT!". I'm the serial liker of cheesy exchanges between boyfriends and girlfriends over FB with an overload of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ just to show you how kilig I am. If a person posts a status about a new job, I quietly rejoice for a good 10 seconds before scrolling the page further down.  What can I say.. I thrive when people around me are happy. Call me shallow, call me silly, call me naive, JUST DONT CALL ME MAYBE unless you want to get shot *loads shotgun*...seeing NICE people happy gives me goosebumps, like really NICE as in YOU DESERVE A MEDAL kind of people. When these folks get what they've always wanted in a time when they've needed it the most, that's what makes ME happy!

Being HAPPY for yourself when good things happen is a GIVEN. But being HAPPY for OTHERS, wow, that is a GIFT. If you get a raise, you win the lotto, you graduate magna cum laude--then being happy is almost like a DUH moment. You have to be happy for yourself! But if you're going through a rough time, your life is in shambles, you can barely make ends meet--and yet, you still find yourself feeling HAPPY for a friend, your sister, your officemate--then that my friend, is a TRUE HEART OF HAPPINESS. And if God has blessed you with this kind of heart---a heart free of envy of other people's successes, a heart free of judgments, a heart free of selfishness and pride, then celebrate! If you can actually step out of your own body--and feel the joy for someone else, that is the most amazing feeling actually feel happiness beyond your own, yan talaga ang nakakakilig!:)

Apartment Therapy: 10 Simple Things to Make You Happier at Home

Our homes are an extension of who we are: what we do within the walls of our abodes shapes our mood, affects our productivity, and influences our outlook on life. Scientific studies have shown that we can have an impact on our happiness by adjusting the tiny little habits and routines that constitute our daily lives — we are, in fact, in control of our outlook on life.
It's amazing how a few tweaks to our daily habits can become a catalyst for meaningful, positive change. Here are a few simple things you can do every day to feel happier at home.
1. Make your bed. In a popular post last month, I explained the manybenefits of daily bed-making. Gretchen Rubin, New York Times best-selling author of The Happiness Project, explains that this three minute task is one of the simplest habits you can adopt to positively impact your happiness.
2. Bring every room back to "ready." I learned this trick from Marilyn Paul's clever book, It's Hard to Make a Difference When You Can't Find Your Keys. It's a known fact: Clutter causes stress; order creates a haven from it. This mood-boosting routine is simple: Take about three minutes to bring each room back to "ready" before you depart it. (Unless you have a toddler, or a partner who likes to simulate earthquakes, three minutes should be sufficient.)
3. Display sentimental items around your home. One reason that experiences (and memories of those experiences) make us happier than material things is due to the entire cycle of enjoyment that experiences provide: planning the experience, looking forward to the experience, enjoying the experience, and then remembering the experience. Make your home a gallery of positive memories.
4. Start a one-line-a-day gratitude journal. Before bed, simply jot down one happy memory from that day. (If you have kids, you can ask them, "What was the best part of today?") Reflection is an important part of happiness, and pausing to reflect on a positive event from each day cultivates gratitude. (An added bonus: Later, when your memory is defunct, you will already have all of your meaningful adventures recorded!) If you have trouble getting started with journaling, consider buying a book to guide you. Simple Abundance, by Sarah Ban Breathnach, is a great one.
5. If you can't get out of it, get into it. This tip comes from The Happiness Project. I love the message: The dishes are not going to clean themselves, so you will do it, and you will like it! (Unless, of course, you can outsource this job, in which case I say: Nice work!) Otherwise, get into doing the dishes. Feel the soothing warm water on your hands. Enjoy the tickle of the tiny bubbles. Crank your favorite album at an unusually loud volume, do a couple fist-pumps while shouting "Can I get a hell yeah for the dishes? Hell! Yeah!" and pretend you love it.
6. Before you get up each morning, set an intent for the day. In The Art of Happiness, the Dali Lama says ""Every day, think as you wake up: today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it." Wow. What a wise man. I tend to wake up with a strong visceral reaction that says, "Attention human beings: Be afraid of me before coffee. Be very afraid!" Setting a daily intent makes a huge difference. Your daily intent could be something like "be productive" or "enjoy today's delicious moments" or it could be something more specific like "say thank you to my loved ones today." But it should not be another "to do" item on your list.
7. Do small favors for your housemates, expecting nothing in return (not even a thank you!). (That's right, I said it: nothing!) Mow the lawn for your husband, but don't expect him to pat you on the back. Make the bed for your wife, but don't try to get bonus points for it. Take the trash out for your roommate, just because. The ability to cultivate strong, healthy relationships is one of the biggest contributors to health and happiness, but when you start to keep score, the benefit is lost. (No! It's YOUR turn to clean up the dog poop!) It's a well-known fact: When you do good, you feel good.
8. Call at least one friend or family member a day. You can do this while you clean, while you make the bed, or while you walk the dog. Texts and emails do not count! Make an actual phone call to a loved one, just to chat and catch up. We humans are social beings and studies show that even when we don't feel like it, even if we are naturally introverted, socializing with our loved ones makes us feel better.
9. Spend money on things that cultivate experiences at home. Save money for a new grill for parties or a new DVD for family movie night — something that will encourage you to have people over and entertain. Plan a summer barbeque, invite your closest friends, kick back and relax. (And don't forget to print out the pictures to remember the good times.)
10. Spend a few minutes each day connecting with something greater than yourself. Whatever your spiritual beliefs — or non-beliefs — may be, studies show that connecting to a high power is correlated with happiness. Just stepping back to realize that we are part of an enormous universe can put some perspective on your annoyance with the those-are-definitely-not-mine-and-they-are-abso-fricking-lutely-repulsive socks under the coffee table. Before bed, spend just a few minutes contemplating something larger than yourself. Take a walk in nature. Write in a journal. Create a sacred space in your home. (Or if spirituality is really not your thing, create a home spa: light some candles, soak in a hot bath, delve into a good book… are you feeling better yet?)

Adam and Eve

This sketch cracked me up. HAHAHA. But when you come to think of it, this was REALLY God's plan for husband and wife. To make it very plain and simple---for man to WANT no one else but his wife, and vice versa. Your wife is the ONLY woman for you and your husband is the ONLY man for you. In Genesis 2:19-25, it paints a very vivid picture of how God ordained marriage. Although this comic strip shows a bit of sarcasm, for husbands and wives (and boyfriends and girlfriends) it's important to see it in God's eyes. God made this person just for you, he/she is a GIFT. And when you start with that concept, then your whole perspective on relationships will change. When you are given a gift.. you treasure it, you appreciate it, you TAKE CARE of it. This is something Pat and I learned at our first marriage counseling session. It's amazing how this very familiar Bible story (a story we've heard countless of times before) can develop an entirely new meaning when it's read in a different season in your life.

Someone didn't get the POLKA DOT Memo

Que horror. I met up with my girlies today and surprise, surprise---Stella came in a POLKA DOT DRESS TOOO!!!!! Accckkkk!!! Everyone was staring at us in Makati Med and it was so embarrassing! We looked like cheesy twins, same dress, same hair and same shoes too! Oh and Makati Med is now our new hangout by the way! I didn't realize it's now a medical mall with restaurants, shops, parlors and even a mini spa!! I got a check up, had lunch, dessert, visited our Tito, had a foot massage all in one place. #CosWe'reCoolLikeThat #MMCThePlaceToBe #photosbySheilaCatilo

Wedding Wednesday: Brand your Wedding

Indeed God is in the details. And if you're the type of bride (and groom) who's meticulous about the teeniest tiniest things, maybe you should consider BRANDING your wedding! That's right, wedding branding is so 2014 and's only 2012!!! I just recently discovered that my friends Ponggo and Tippy of the Googly Gooeys have been offering this service to friends and are now open to the public! They can customize just about anything from menu cards, gift tags, straw decors, cake /dessert labels--anything and everything you'd like to add a personal touch to. This creative couple will whip up something brilliant and magical especially for you--you'll have your guests wishing they came up with those quirky decors for their weddings too. (HA! Sorry too late chocolate na sila! Hindi sila kasing cool niyo!) For inquiries, just shoot them an email with your desired pegs, color themes, and inspirations. If you're clueless as to what theme you'd like to pull off, I'm sure Pong and Tippy will be able to guide you through the whole process. They are possibly the nicest and most creative couple you'll ever meet and I'm not even joking. So book them now and tell them I sent you! | All Rights Reserved. 2011.
