Fashion Friday: Paris Street Style

I should stop dressing like a Californian and start dressing like a Parisian. So inspired by these effortlessly chic clothes by random Parisians!!! Notice that most of these women are middle aged already--they look age appropriate but still fashion forward.

Secret Fresh X Dimensione X Magis

Last week I hosted another revolutionary art event in one of my favorite stores in the metro, Dimensione. You all know I'm a big fan of home decor and all things related to interior design, so Dimensione has been my Disneyland for many years. I love how Ben Chan (and his team of young creatives) has managed to elevate the Filipino taste by introducing high quality and world class furniture. Speaking of world class, one of the most famous lines that Dimensione exclusively carries is MAGIS. Known worldwide for their seamless and stylish designs, the MAGIS line is for the homeowner with impeccable taste and a penchant for the finer things in life.

Finnish designer, Mr. Eero Aarnio is one of the many great designers under the brand MAGIS. Mr. Eero Aarnio began experimenting with plastics, vivid colors and organic form, breaking away from traditional design conventions. Mr. Eero Aarnio is the designer of the Famous MAGIS Puppy Chair. This frolic and abstract dog qualifies perfectly as stool or toy and is suited for indoor as well as outdoor use. The Puppy Chair has 4 sizes, small, Medium, large and extra large, and comes in the colors Orange, Green, White, a glow in the dark puppy chair, and a limited year of the dragon edition, Gold.
To give the PUPPY DOG a Filipino twist, Dimensione together with Secret Fresh Gallery unveiled 8 distinct Puppy Chairs designed by true blue Pinoys. These 8 puppy chairs were assigned to 8 different contemporary artists and are now sold at the Dimensione Boni High Street branch.
· Electrolychee with their puppy design called “Upo’ng otso sinkwenta lamang”

· Jagnus Design with their puppy called “Stray”
· Farley Del Rosario with “The Green Guardian”
· Mimi Tecson with “Rally”
· Whoop with “Tattoo”
· Wesley Valenzuela with “Sta. Cruz”
· Tripp 63 with “The Anti-monochrome puppy’
· Nemo Aguila with “Ponkan”

Marriott Manila's Tea for Natalie

In a few weeks, Three's Company shall turn into a Party of Four. Our little Audrey will soon be an ate to another little angel, Natalie. This baby is possibly one of the most anticipated babies---a celebrity that has yet to pop out! Last Sunday, Marriott Manila hosted an intimate afternoon tea party for mommy Cecil, who happens to be my sister-in-law (to be). Cecil has been more than a friend to me--she's my most trusted confidante, life coach, cheerleader, foodie partner, prayer warrior, and shopping buddy!I 'd still consider her my sister..even if we weren't bound by law. We could be sisters-in-food (we both love to eat!).

Planning this party with Marriott made me realize how much love surrounds Cecil and Jonsy. I was pleasantly surprised to see how easy it was to gather everyone to pitch in for all the shower preps. It's just a testament of how much people care for this kind hearted couple. When you've been a blessing to others (day in and day out), it becomes so natural for others to bless you back.
Marriott did such an excellent job! They dressed up THE DEN for Cecil's shower. For intimate family events, I highly recommend this particular venue in Marriott Hotel. For a group of 25-50, this is the perfect space for a kiddie party, bridal shower, corporate function, or family reunion. It has a very cozy atmosphere which will make your guests feel right at home. The space is very inviting with its contemporary interiors and natural lighting. Since we were working with white and sorbet colors, the Marriott team made sure to match the table settings and decors with Cecil's theme. Here's a really cute photo of the happy family chilling by the garden just outside THE DEN.
Pasta, Sandwiches, and Possibly the Most Delicious Fudge Brownies in History by Marriott Manila!
Of course, my favorite part of the entire party: THE CANDY BUFFET by Sugar and Spice. Mel and Carms will be setting up a whole spread of goodies for our wedding (EEEPPPP!!!! I better cut down on my sugar in the coming months so I can go WIIIILD with the sugary treats on my wedding day!! Magwawala talaga akooo!!! Please don't tell Patrick I told you that! Heeheehee) so I've been coordinating with them for a couple of months now. I decided to tap them for Cecil's party as well because I just knew they would be able to give the cheeriness and warmth we were hoping to share with the guests. And come on, how could you possibly go wrong with a CANDY BUFFET?!?!
Sugar and Spice created such a mouthwatering buffet! The table was brimming with gummy bears, chocolate gems, marshmallows, wafer sticks, and the yummiest apple crumble cinnamon rolls (thanks Jantu Revilla). They even posted Jonsy and Cecil's baby pictures. The whole set up was too cute for words!

My dear friend and (ahem,ahem--time for a build up!) fellow Court Side Hottie and TV Personality George Rocha made this beautiful Macaron Eiffel Tower for our family affair. This crush ng bayan turned busy mommy makes the most delicious macarons in town. Her macarons are perfect for afternoon tea parties and girly soirees. If you're a non-traditional bride, a Macaron tower would definitely be a nice alternative to the usual wedding cake. Drop by the EMPIRE MACARON Facebook page here.
Check out this lovely Tea Cup Fondant Cake by Marie Pacheco topped with fresh flowers. Marie was rushing in between birthday parties, debuts, and showers throughout the week but still managed to squeeze in time for Cecil's lovely cake. Thank you Marie for making it so delicate and fresh! And it was super yummy too!!! She also made the cake pops for our guests. You can visit her site here
I am a sucker for small food kiosks, this has now made its way into my favorite snacks list! Sarap! Here's my lovahhh boy picking up a few krokettens for me!!
Fun and Games c/o Marge and Anne.
Thank you to my BFF Alessa for giving up her Sunday just to facilitate a mini watercolor session for Cecil's guests! The ladies found the painting activity so therapeutic. Not only were we able to unleash the inner Van Goghs, we were able to pick up lots of useful info watercolor brush strokes and techniques! For more details about her crafternoon sessions, visit her website at www.lifeafterbreakfast.com!

Our happy helpers! Joy, Anne and Marge, Thank you for helping me with all the little details :) To Sheila, thank you for "rewarding" Lemarc and making our super photographer happy (wink, wink!).
One more time, with the boys! Hehehe! Look at Julia's face---blame the sugar from the candy buffet! hahaha! So cuuuuute!:)
To all the lovely ladies, thank you for celebrating with Cecil, Jonsy and Audrey!!!:)
I'd like to thank Jenny Casitas for the Pevonia gift bags. And of course to Michelle Garcia, Vannah Santiago, Windel Estanislao and the rest of the amazing Marriott Manila team for working double time just to make this baby shower truly memorable for Cecil and her family! The service was excellent, the food was DE-LI-CIOUS and the venue was tastefully decorated--you certainly exceeded our expectations. :)

Strip Tease Soiree

Lunch Break I-Message Exchange.
Patrick: "Hi Love! What are you doing after lunch?"
Patty: "I'm going to STRIP in Serendra."
Patrick:"What?!!??!?"
Patty:"I'm going to STRIP nga with my friends. Ale, Muff, Gin, and Kat are going to STRIP too."
Patrick:"Don't do it!!!!!!!!!! There are other ways to make money!!!"
Another miscommunication right there. Obviously, I was talking about this STRIP. The internationally acclaimed waxing salon located on the 2nd floor of Serendra, Bonifacio High Street. (They also have a branch in Greenbelt by the way!)
I got a pretty "interesting" invitation from Tab of Strip via email. "Hi Patty, would you like to have a STRIP TEASE SOIREE with your girlfriends?". I actually giggled like a school girl upon reading it. Then I realized that although waxing is something people don't normally discuss on a daily basis and not exactly small talk material "So how's the weather? And have you waxed lately?".. it's something that girls (and yes guys too) deal with regularly. It's a matter of hygienic importance! When it comes to waxing, you have to be very meticulous and thorough because you are dealing with the most delicate and sensitive parts of your body.

With branches in London, Singapore, Hong Kong, and New York, STRIP is definitely a leader in the waxing industry worldwide. They've "waxed and pruned over 2 million bushes" from different countries so you can tell they're definitely the experts. They proudly share, "From our boutiques in Shanghai to London, our pioneering HSQ mantra, symbolizes our devotion to the Holy Trinity of Waxing: Hygiene, Speed and Quality." And I have to agree, they definitely live up to this mantra! Their waxing salon is immaculately clean and their therapists are very well trained and neat as well. "So fanatical are we that STRIP was the first salon to introduce the ‘No Double Dipping’ commandment. Our Hygiene Pack is also justly legendary – each customer receives a new individually sealed pouch containing disposable waxing equipment (including gloves, face masks, pH balance wet wipes and spatulas."
If you're a first time waxer, don't be shy! If you've been shaving your legs all your life or still enjoying it au naturale, all you have to do is simply drop by their store and their friendly staff will give you a quick and informative briefing to prep you for the treatment. I have a very low tolerance for pain but most of their services are virtually painless and REALLY QUICK so it's not as bad as you think!
I'd like to thank the wonderful team of STRIP MANILA for treating me and my friends to a unique girl bonding experience!!!:) They prepared a whole spread of treats for us, including a cute Red Velvet STRIP Lolli-cake by the Lollicake Factory. We even had some fun games and got to take home some goodies too! A Strip Soiree is actually a great idea for birthday parties, pre-beach affairs or bridal showers, it allows you to "deal with your hairy business" with your closest girlfriends. My friends and I are definitely planning to do this more often :) For more information, just check out www.strip.com.sg and click the Manila page!

The Formula

"This should be your ambition: to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we commanded you before. As a result, people who are not Christians will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others to meet your financial needs."
-1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

I opened the Bible randomly today and I found this verse. Reading this paints a very clear picture of the life God wants us to live as opposed to the kind of life the world presents to us. The verse is pretty straightforward yet incredibly difficult to achieve. Let's dissect it together, shall we?

Living a quiet life is not exactly ideal these days, it's commonly perceived as boring and who wants to live a boring life?   "A quiet life" doesn't mean an uneventful life, in fact, God challenges us to go out there to make a statement--to live a life or purpose and excellence. "Quiet" also doesn't mean apathy, it doesn't mean turning a blind eye--it means dealing with issues with firm convictions privately without having to broadcast it to the whole world. By "QUIET", I think Paul was talking about a life free of intrigues, envy for others, anger, greed, and all the other daily negative shizzzz. In today's facebook terms, it's avoiding the "It's Complicated" status not only in your relationships, but in life in general.

The second bit is possibly the more difficult part. "Minding your own business" is virtually impossible with blogs, twitter, facebook, etc. Even if you want to mind your own business, it's right there---in the form of an annoying picture of that annoying batchmate/officemate/sister of your highschool orgmate friend on your timeline, posing like she's friggin Heidi Klum when she looks like a Heidi Gloom. You tell yourself, "Damnit this pretentious photo is asking for it!!!". You see a multitude of comments and your fingers are itching to type a witty hirit too. I've been there and it's HARD to hold back. How do you mind your own business when other people's business are practically shoved right up your face?! Hahaha!:) But it's written in the Bible for a purpose and it shouldn't be taken lightly.Minding your own business not only shields you from conflict, it also makes you more focused and driven to improve your own life without having to be in a competition with others. When you mind your own business, you become more appreciative of the good things you have and more aware of the things that need some fixing.

The third requirement is "working with your hands". Please allow me to stress this further especially to my young readers: You could read all the self help books in National Bookstore, you could travel to the most exotic destinations, go on a spiritual "Finding Myself" journey for an entire year, talk to the Pope, the Dalai Lama, Obama, and David Blane----you won't find any meaning and purpose in your life if you DO NOT EXPERIENCE REAL, HARD WORK. I am not encouraging you to become  money hungry workaholics. I'm simply expressing how important it is to actually contribute to society, to give your time, talents, and skills to something other than self-gratification, to have concrete goals,  and finally to elicit change. Work brings stress, sure, but it also brings discipline, productivity, and progress. On most days, work sucks big time--and it can really take a toll on you physically and emotionally. When I'm stressed I always think to myself that I'm still lucky to have the capacity to stress over something. The worse stress is having nothing to stress over, it only shows that you're not doing anything with your life. Do you really just wanna sleep on a hammock in a deserted island and wait for the coconuts to fall from the tree--all day, everyday for the rest of your life?

I started working when I was 18 and I havent stopped since. As a working student, I would constantly whine about how my life was so miserable..all my friends would be out partying and I would be working or studying in advance for the lessons I would have to miss due to work. I was eternally tired and sleep deprived 24-7. But looking back, I'm glad I learned the value of hard work early on. Work taught me to deal with all sorts of people, it made me more tolerant and understanding of others. It also made me closer to my parents, work allowed me to mature emotionally and mentally allowing me to engage in more adult conversations with them. Because I was working as a teenager--I quickly eliminated that sense of entitlement that most teenagers feel towards their parents. Because I understood how hard it was to make money, I didn't feel the need to ask for things from my parents. I was just so happy to receive anything from them. They paid for my education, food, shelter, transportation, etc already--so it just made me feel embarrassed to ask for anything else.

These days I'm trying to invest more on my quality of life, I'm taking it a bit easier on myself work-wise--I realized it wasn't healthy for me emotionally to just accept jobs left and right so I'm trying to live a more balanced life these days. It's not easy because the control freak in me wants to work-work, but thankfully I have my super supportive fiance who tells me to relax and trust that God will take care of everything. Now that I'm approaching my thirties, I'm re-aligning my goals and dreams and it's perfect that I stumbled across this verse this morning. The goal now is to live quietly and simply, to be productive and excellent in my work (this includes being a good wife and mom--fingers crossed-- soon!), and to live a life that will naturally elicit respect from others. Madaling sabihin pero napaka-hirap gawin! But just looking at the lives of Sec. Robredo and Capt. Bahingting, I'm once again inspired to change my life and become a better human being! We only get one shot, folks--so we have to make it count.

Our Dream Sofa

Pat and I have been on the look out for a nice sofa for our living room for months, but we were always half baked about the ones available in the market. There was always something lacking--it was either too "girly" for Patrick or too "bachelor's pad" for me. We just couldn't find a sofa that suited both of our personalities and to make our condition of indecision even worse--we had to consider our budget, the size of our pad, and of course the quality of the workmanship. It's hard to explain, but we wanted something simple but NOT too plain, something classic but modern. Hahaha, ang gulo namin!:) :)

A few weeks back, we visited Mandaue Foam in Las Pinas and we discovered that they actually have a special furniture customization service. So we collaborated with the Mandaue Foam staff to come up with the "perfect sofa" that would sort of  become a marriage of both our tastes and needs. So tadahhhh!!! Here's the product of a happy compromise between me and Patrick: a plush and luxurious white leather 3 seater---but wait, there's more--it's actually a RECLINER!! Obviously Patrick is totally psyched about this, he can now watch all his favorite NBA games comfortably! All we have to do now is save up for a decent TV! Because all he'll be watching for now is a blank wall! Hahaha :)
Thank you Mandaue Foam for making our dream sofa!:) Mandaue Foam has a wide range of ready made sofas--all very affordable (trust me!!! friendly prices talaga!), contemporary, and durable. And good news guys, they're going on SALE!!! They're actually very modestly priced on regular days so imagine how much you'll save during their anniversary sale. I have my eye on a couple of things already, so I'll share my cool MF finds with you in the coming months. Happy Couch Hunting!
