I still can’t believe 2013 is coming to a close in just a few days! EEEEP!!! I wonder how 2014 will pan out, this year was incredibly meaningful for me so I can’t see how any year could possibly top this one. Hehehe 🙂
I figured I have a few days left so I might as well make a few positive changes and make this year count. So here are some little things I’ve done (and will be doing) until 2013 says goodbye and which I will be carrying over to the brand new year as well.
1. WAKING UP MY SLEEPY MUSCLES
Last October, I did a few trial Pilates sessions at One Life Studio in Greenhills. For the first time in my life I found an exercise routine that I could actually look forward to! It was challenging but exciting at the same time and the pace was just right for me. But we had to leave for Australia so my Pilates routine got interrupted. I tried getting back to it but work got in the way and it was just too difficult for me to commit. So I vowed to fix my schedule and really make time for a proper workout (at least 3x a week).
I just started my first week in their sister studio OPTIONS in the Fort along with my girlfriends Nicole and Kelly. It really helps when you workout with friends because you can sort of cheer each other on—OR in our case, make fun of each other and laugh hysterically (it adds to the ab workout!). Our body has been burning for the first few sessions and we’ve been wailing like sissies throughout our workouts, but it’s the good kind of burn! Thanks to Lyd De Roca of OPTIONS, we’ve signed up for a 3 month program so no more excuses na talaga. 🙂 🙂
My Pilates staples include: 1) My yellow SHIQ canvas bag, I love that it’s big enough to dump everything in but doesn’t look entirely like a “gym bag”. 2) My Klean Kanteen Vacuum Insulated Bottle. It keeps my drinks cold and refreshing! According to the site: “Durable, double-walled construction and vacuum insulation assures that beverages stay hot up to 6 hours, while iced drinks stayfrosty for more than 24.” 3) My funny but super useful Toe Sox! They make my toes look like monkey toes (hihihihi) but I kid you not, these socks are amazing for Pilates because of it gives you an extra grip. Both Klean Kanteen and Toe Sox are available at Certified Calm stores.
2. ADDING MORE GREENS
I’ve shared my dislike for veggies several times in the blog. I grew up as a carnivore and carb lover—veggies were always pushed to the side when I was a child. I’d have several battles over dinner with my mom who would beg me to finish my veggies. It’s only now that I’ve really taken a liking to these plant based food. When I get my green on, I feel stronger and more alert!
For those who are on the go, you can just pack a HEALTHY MONSTER with you. These salads last for up to 5 days in your fridge. They’re yummy and filling enough to eat on their own as your main meal (if you’re trying to lose weight) but since I have quite an appetite—I usually have a jar and a main dish after 🙂 Hehehe! Kailangan ko talaga kumain ng kumain or else I’ll become a CRANKY MONSTER. At least I’m getting the nutrition and fiber I need to supplement my main meal 🙂
3. SKINvesting FOR THE FUTURE
Hahaha, I just made up the term 2 seconds ago! This is something I have been really actively dedicating time to not only for the past month but for almost a year now—my SKIN HEALTH. I used to take my skin problems for granted but now I’m trying to be as proactive as possible 🙂
Dr. Kaycee Reyes of LUMINISCE has been taking care of my face (and the skin all over too!) for about a year now. I actually met her in London when I was on a business trip a few years back. She was completing a medical course at the time when we became acquainted to one another. When she told me she was back in Manila now with a clinic of her own, I was so excited to become her “patient”. With her credentials and expertise, she could’ve easily started a flourishing career in Europe but instead she came back to serve her fellow Pinoys. She treats all sorts of skin problems from severe acne, eczema, warts, wrinkles, and other serious and not so serious conditions. And can I just say, her skin is so supple and flawless—she’s the best endorser of her own clinic! Hahaha 🙂 KC is also the derma of my own mom—so to all of you who have been complimenting my mom’s youthful glow, I credit Dr. KC for that too! She’s also the derma of my two BFFS, Sheila and Stella! Lahat na kami Dr. KC followers!
Aside from the regular facials and treatments I get at LUMINISCE, I also follow a simple beauty regimen. These are some products I’ve been using for about 3 months now. I still have the staples in my bathroom (some of which I’ve blogged about already) but these are some new additions that I wanted to share with you 🙂
1. Neutrogena’s Oil Free Moisture for Sensitive Skin
Since it’s oil free it doesn’t clog my pores. It glides smoothly on the skin and doesn’t feel too sticky or thick.
2. Kiehl’s Eye Cream
I dab a few dots under my eyes when I’m stressed or lacking in sleep. It also moisturizes my undereye area which tends to be dry at times.
3. Benefit’s Ultra Radiance
This is a great mid-day pick me upper! It instantly refreshes the skin (with or without makeup on!).
4. Isis Nano Age and Nano White
These products were prescribed to me by Dr. KC. I take a few drops of each and spread generously on my face after cleansing. Nano Age makes my skin feel more supple and youthful while the Nano White provides a potent amount of Vitamin C.
5. Souq’s Argan Oil
This has been a staple in my beauty regimen for years now.
6. ZO Skin Health’s Oclipse Sunscreen+Primer SPF 30
One of my favorite daily sunscreen products. It doesn’t give off that white sheen that most sunscreens have and it also doubles as a primer which makes makeup application much easier.
