Ahhh, WEEKENDS..Perhaps, man’s greatest invention of all time. Next to HAW FLAKES. According to historians, up until the early 1900s the idea of having a “weekend” was non-existent as people were expected to work 17 hours a day, 7 days a week. Here’s a little bit of trivia for you all:
In cultures with a seven-day week, the day of rest derives from the main religious tradition: Sunday
(Christian), Saturday (Jewish), or Friday (Muslim). The American concept of the weekend has its roots in labor union attempts to accommodate Jewish workers who took Saturday instead of Sunday as their Sabbath. The first five-day work week was instituted by a New England cotton mill for this reason. In 1926 Henry Ford began shutting down his automotive factories for all of Saturday and Sunday. In 1929 the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America was the first union to demand a five-day work week and receive it. After that, the rest of the United States slowly followed, but it wasn’t until 1940 that the two-day weekend began nationwide.– Wikipedia
So thank you Jews, Labor Union, and Henry Ford for giving us our WEEKENDS!!! The past few weeks have been so crazy hectic for me..it’s like I’ve been jumping from one meeting to another all day-everyday. But I’m not complaining…I love that my different jobs allow me to meet so many interesting and important people and do something new each day. It’s the happy kind of stress to find yourself busy, productive and always moving. So with all the bubuyog action during the week, it’s nice to just settle down and zone out during the weekend. 🙂 This weekend, I took a cooking class (more details on that soon!), enjoyed a BBQ-Mafia session at our friend’s house, and visited a Boat/Yacht Expo with both our tatays. I just realized that I’m so blessed to have good friends and family to share these simple, inexpensive, yet memorable weekends with 🙂 Now it’s back to the grind!!!
SUNDAY: SEA EXPO The Pats with Da Dads!:)
