Before I got married, I played third wheel to my parents’ vacations for years. From Hong Kong to Santorini, I was always their extra piece of luggage and we got used to booking a triple sharing room for every trip. I’ve been married for 2.5 years now and as much as I enjoy traveling with my husband, I also do miss my saling-pusa role as my parents’ daughter. For their 33rd wedding anniversary, I made arrangements for us to enjoy a staycation in Domicilo Tagaytay. I’ve heard so many great reviews about this elegant boutique hotel, it seemed like the perfect weekend destination for us. Patrick had a shoot that weekend, so it was an opportunity to third-wheel yet again like the good ‘ol days.
Domicillo Tagaytay is Rene Alcala’s passion project. This boutique hotel was designed by THE Budji Layug and is nestled perfectly on the ridge, giving guests spectacular views of Taal Volcano and Lake. With only 8 suites, you can be sure that guests will be well-attended and cared for. Their service is very warm & personal but professional, giving you just the right attention but also enough space and privacy too. The suites are very impressive, with a lot of SPACE and TASTE. My parents are very well traveled yet they were still completely blown away by the interiors and decors. It’s a very, very photogenic property!
Once you check in, you can just chill until the next day. Since they have two in-house dining options: La Finca and Aozora, there’s really no need for you to head out to eat. Aozora serves authentic Japanese food, with the classics like Katsudon, Tempura, Sushi, etc. While the recently opened La Finca serves breakfast daily and other comfort food options throughout the day. My mom and I loved the Soft Shell Crab Salad and Gambas at La Finca! So delicious!! 🙂
On a personal note, I recommend this property for couples (for a romantic getaway/anniversary weekend) or for families with older children/teens. It’s not really ideal for toddlers/infants but if you do wish to bring your tiny tots, please make sure they are properly supervised at all times as the property is quite elevated and has a lot of open balconies and stairs. I can also imagine this to be the perfect “base” for those who are planning to get married in Tagaytay, you can book the entire hotel for your entourage/family and make it a fun bonding experience as you prep for the wedding festivities together.
I’d like to extend my deepest thanks to Rene for being such a gracious host throughout our stay! And also thanks to the rest of the DOMICILLO team for making us feel so welcome. If you’d like to make arrangements, you can easily book through their Facebook page HERE or call (046) 413 3552 or 0922 884 1532.
