From Our Table to Yours

I received a signed copy of “From Our Table to Yours” from the author himself, Angelo Comsti. It came at a very good time in my life. As you all know, I’ve been trying my very best to work my way around the kitchen. (Operative word is TRYING!). I’m definitely a very late bloomer, learning how to cook at age 30! Eeep! How embarrassing 🙂 But I do believe that it’s never too late to learn something new and self improvement must be a constant thing, whatever age or life phase you may find yourself in.

I know it’s a bit on the ambisyosa side to even think I’ll become as great as these home cooks featured in this book–but I do love how these moms/lolas/titas/dads are celebrated by their respective families because of their signature dishes. I hope someday I’ll also be able to come up with a “Lola Patring” dish that will be passed on from generation to generation!
In From Our Table to Yours: A Collection of Heirloom Recipes and Family Memories, chef Angelo Comsti shares generations-old and time-tested recipes. It is a treasure trove of stories, heirloom recipes and family memories from some of the country’s most influential foodies such as Antonio Escalante of Antonio’s, Joel Binamira of Zubuchon, Aileen Anastacio of Goodies N’ Sweets and Pixie Sevilla-Santos of Forget Me Not Specialty Cakes.
The book celebrates and immortalizes over 50 dishes that have been forgotten as well as personal narratives that make the dishes all the more special and worth sharing. It features main dishes, snacks and desserts with personal photos and short stories accompanying each recipe. Some of the recipes which have clear step-by-step instructions and food preparation tips include: beef shank soup (pochero), stewed pork knuckle (estofadong pata), caramel custard (leche flan), prawns with coconut milk and bilimbi fruit, fried pork spring rolls and Christmas cheese balls.
Angelo Comsti graduated with a degree in professional culinary studies at Le Cordon Bleu in Sydney, Australia and has long been working with food. He is a food writer for television and various print and digital periodicals and a food and prop stylist for magazines, print ads, billboards, restaurant menus and cookbooks. He is the co-author of Home-made for the Holidays, a primer on how to make Christmas creations to spoil guests and loved ones. Currently, he develops recipes for corporate clients and holds cooking demonstrations.
