Just A Little Help, Please?

I’m sure I’m going to get mixed reactions about this but it’s something I’ve really prayed about and I’m hoping for your support. As most of you know, my mom is from a small town in Davao Oriental. I spent all my summers and holidays down south, so it’s really our second home.  My lola, titos, titas, cousins are all in Davao (we’re the only ones based here). While on our honeymoon, my heart broke to the news of Typhoon Pablo hitting Mindanao leaving more than 500 people dead (as of Sunday evening) and hundreds more missing. Thankfully, our family is safe but a lot of people close to us were greatly affected. I felt absolutely helpless and saddened by the whole tragedy. Doesn’t it just make you sick to your stomach sitting in a very comfortable position and watching others go through so much suffering and pain? Hay.

On the plane back to Manila, I was trying to figure out my battle plan. It had to be simple, quick and  realistic. And then I was reminded about our TOY JOY exercise back in my old preschool (I blogged about this before)–where we would encourage our young toddler students to give up their most prized possession (their fave book, barbie doll, bicycle, etc) for a less fortunate child. The idea was simple, GIVE UP something for someone, but OH SO DIFFICULT to execute. So there, that’s when I realized I had to let go of something that meant a lot to me. Aaminin ko, hanggang ngayon medyo may kurot ng sakit–but I know it will be worth the sacrifice.

So here we go. I’m publishing this post ASAP para walang bawian. Let’s do this. I’ve decided to AUCTION OFF my one and only wedding gown to raise funds for our family friends in Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley. 100% of the proceeds of this sale will go directly to the victims of Typhoon Pablo. I figured this would be a win-win situation for you and me. WIN for YOU because you can get this fabulous gown for a fraction of the original cost (used only once, in mint condition, dry cleaned, and professionally disinfected) and a WIN for ME because your generous contribution will help the people from my mom’s hometown.
My mother gifted me with a beautiful designer wedding gown by Spanish bridal line, Rosa Clara. We ordered it from Barcelona and it was flown in just a few months before my wedding day. If you scroll a bit further down, you’ll see that it has a figure flattering mermaid silhouette, sweetheart neckline, and a dainty flower on the side. The details on the dress are so intricate and I swear to you, it fits like a glove! I won’t lie to you, the dress was a bit pricey..but rightfully so because it’s an original Rosa Clara dress made with the finest material. It was definitely a big splurge especially for my mom who’s very simple and not really into fancy and branded clothing. But you only get married once (best effort!hehehe) and so investing on a wedding dress could be justifiable even for kuripots like me. I really wanted to keep this dress (just like all brides) but I guess God has other plans for this dress–and he’s orchestrating another beautiful love story through this. To the bride who will be getting this dress, I pray that it will make you feel beautiful, feminine and radiant (just like it made me feel on my wedding day! Huhuhuhu! SENTI MODE ON!)
To protect the buyer’s privacy, I’ve decided to make this a PRIVATE AUCTION. And since this sale is TO HELP others and not motivated by profit, I leave the price point up to you. If you like this dress and are serious about purchasing it, send me an email at pattylaurelblog@gmail.com with YOUR BUDGET along with your full name, address, and mobile number. No price is too low or too steep—I urge you to pray about it before naming your price because many lives will be blessed by your decision. For your peace of mind, I will give you the contact details and information of the families and churches we will be sending the funds to.

PS For the sizing, you can always have it altered to your liking but I will discuss this with you further once I establish that you are a serious bidder. Just to give you an idea–I stand at 5’3 so if you’re 5’9 I think this dress might turn into a mini skirt. Hahaha!
I’ll be accepting offers until January 5. If you’d like to help in another way, just email me!  Another way to help is by sharing this on your FB page/Twitter accounts. With your help,we could reach more possible bidders. Thanks so much for your support!:)

The winning bidder will not only get the Rosa Clara gown, she will also get these FOR FREE!!!!!

  1. I didn’t expect you’d auction your wedding gown. I am beyond shock; but knowing it will be a blessing to others (the winning bidder and those affected by Pablo), it’ll be worth it.

  2. Wow! I cant believe how selfless u are for doing this. If i only have the money, even if im not getting married any sooner id surely bid on this. Sobrang bilib n tlga ako sau PrettyPatty. Ikaw n tlga! πŸ™‚

    • Nakakagulat naman Yung decision mo. Shock ako. I thought Yung ibang gamit mo ang ipapabenta o ipapa auction mo. I know it’s a selfless act. But think of it. Minsan ka Lang kasalin. At ano naman mararamdaman ng partner mo at ng mama kung mapabenta ang wedding dress mo.
Though I salute you for thinking and making a plan to help the people in need.

  3. Oh wow! I know how much this dress means to you, Patty. I’m so proud of what you are doing here, and I know that the good Lord will bless you & all those you are reaching out to a hundredfold because of it. *hugs*

  4. In my opinion, it’s so cool that your auctioning your wedding dress. It will surely make another bride happy while at the same time make the people affected by the typhoon happy. It’s like bestowing all the happiness you had with that dress to them. Besides, for me, the shoes the bride wore on her wedding day are worth more keeping than the dress because she could always wear it again for special occasions with her husband like a silver wedding anniversary or something. The shoes is a piece of that special day which she could wear every now and then to relive that special moment πŸ™‚

  5. Wow, Patty. That’s a very brave thing to do! For one, it’s your mom’s wedding gift and, secondly, it’s your very own wedding dress!!! Wow. Just wow!!! I salute you and your very selfless act. May God bless you and your loved ones a hundredfold! Stay happy and pretty, inside out!

First time to comment here because I feel I just have to : God Bless You.

    How do I bid?

  9. Hi Patty, this reminded me of something I read awhile back where the bride gave away her dress and the dress on another bride took on another life of its own and the passing of the dress to strangers became the sisterhood of the traveling wedding dress! (the story can be found here: http://apracticalwedding.com/2012/01/sisterhood-of-the-dress-vi-dress-worn/ ) This is such an admirable act, especially given all the hoopla our culture lends on *the* wedding dress, and, I think, a great way to start a marriage, too — with some courage and a little selflessness. God bless you. πŸ™‚
