Rediscovering Harbour City

img_2824

There are just a handful of places I don’t mind visiting a thousand times over. On that list would be New York, Tokyo, London and HONG KONG. Most definitely Hong Kong! Always and forever a favorite. There’s just something so vibrant about this city that never, ever gets old.

And  because I’ve visited HK so many times (thank you promo fares!!!), I’ve sort of figured out the perfect formula to a perfect HK weekender. This has been tried and tested for at least the past 4 trips, so I can proudly say it works! Hahaha! So it’s a two prong formula that involves a Hotel and a Mall, both situated in Tsim Sha Tsui. 1) Check in at any of the Marco Polo Hotels (Prince, Gateway or Marco Polo Main) and 2) hop on over to Harbour City to shop and dine—and PLAY, since Theo is now in the picture! And it seems this is no longer a secret. A lot of my discerning HK fanatics have discovered this winning combination too. 🙂 If you have yet to visit Harbour City, you can find more information on their site HERE“Harbour City is a one-stop shopping paradise with over 450 shops, 50 food & beverage outlets, two cinemas, three hotels, 10 office buildings, two serviced apartments and a luxurious private club all under one roof.”

So when we were invited to be guests of Harbour City for the weekend, it was a very easy yes because I’ve been a loyal Harbour City shopper&diner for many years already. Although a lot of things were warm and familiar, there were so many new additions that tickled my fancy and we also saw Harbour City with fresh new eyes because we were now visiting as parents with an active toddler. I just appreciated the little things about this mall even more! Toys R Us looked even more magical with a wide-eyed 1 year old,  the whole floor dedicated to Children’s brands made me so giddy,  and just the overall feel, safety and cleanliness of this family-friendly mall put me at ease as a parent and made my trip much more enjoyable.

If you only have a weekend to spare, here are my 5 quick recommendations:

  1. Visit the Bear Brick Exhibition.

With about 30++ luxury brands from Kate Spade, Emilio Pucci, Armani, Vivienne Westwood coming together all in the name of art and charity, this iconic exhibition is one of the reasons why a lot of shoppers flock to Harbour City. It’s one of the most instagrammable exhibits in town. Theo kept saying “Bear! Bear!Bear!” and couldn’t contain his excitement to see all these giant bears lined up by the Ocean Terminal.

2. Fill your belly at Three on Canton.

I love, love, love Harbour City’s diverse dining options. I personally am such a fan of their food court just across City Super. There are also so many restaurants scattered throughout this ginormous mall—you can have your fill of Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, American, or even French in between your shopping. But one of our favorites would have to be the buffet at THREE ON CANTON. A very family friendly restaurant that’s sure to make mom, dad, and baby extra satisfied.

3. Have some MOMMY ME TIME and go wild at the BEAUTY section of Ocean Terminal.

I consider myself very fortunate to have a husband who always gives me my MOMMY ME TIME. It’s something I really appreciate about Patrick. It’s not even something I have to demand, he just takes Theo when he knows I need a break and gives it to me freely 🙂 Especially when we’re on vacation, he’ll give me some free time to just do something for ME! Which of course ends up super rushed because I end up just missing my boys too! Hahaha! Moms can’t help it, noh? For this trip, my happy free time was spent in the make up aisles of Ocean Terminal. I went gaga over all the lipsticks, foundations, concealers, mascaras, etc etc etc. But the highlight of course was visiting the Estee Lauder counter to get first dibs of the Victoria Beckham collection!! GAAAAHHHH!!!

4. Take the Star Ferry.

One of the things I enjoy most about Harbour City is it’s location. Since it’s connected to the Star Ferry pier, it makes it even more accessible to cross to Central and head back to Tsim Shah Tsui within minutes. PLUS, the Star Ferry is pocket friendly! It’s definitely much cheaper than taking a taxi and the scenic ride across the water makes it much more enjoyable than a cab ride. I think both adults and kids will always find a trip on the Star Ferry fascinating. There’s something about the Star Ferry that transports you to old Hong Kong and I love that they’ve kept it just as charming as the first time I got on it at age 6.

      5. Go Shopping at the Kids & Maternity Floor

Located at the Ground Floor of the Ocean Terminal area you will find a bevy of stores all dedicated to kids, babies, and mommies too! This was my most favorite section in the whole mall! I think I spent at least 30 minutes everyday on this floor alone. Fashionista mommies will go crazy with the baby versions of your favorite luxury brands—they have Baby Dior, Armani Junior, Burberry Children and so much more! They also sell everything from prams to car seats, boots to raincoats, books and toys as well. And of course, you’ll need to dedicate at least 2 hours just for TOYS R US!!!

Here are some snaps from our recent trip! Thanks again Harbour City for being such gracious hosts to our little family 🙂
