Review: Panorama NIPT in Hi Precision

The very first thing I did as soon as the two lines made themselves known was to search for this video Patrick made for me when I was going through my first pregnancy with Theo. The “hormo-tional” preggo in me was balling when I replayed the video again. Happy memories of my pregnancy came flooding in and I was just overwhelmed with joy that we were blessed with another child just 2 years after the first one.

I’ve always been told by friends that each pregnancy is different and boyyyy am I feeling it now! With Theo, I had zero complications, with no nausea or any aches&pains. I was traveling all over the world with Patrick and having a ball with my ball of a tummy. This second round is the complete opposite, with all day nausea, sciatica, and mood swings that put even the Incredible Hulk to shame! Hahaha! Even if I’m going through a completely different experience this time around, the gratefulness and joy to be a mom (again) remains the same.

The one thing I was convinced to do again for this pregnancy was the PANORAMA NIPT. I had such a good experience the first time, I was determined to do a repeat for my 2nd child. This was first introduced to me by Melissa Ongsue-Lee  along with the highly skilled team of doctors and staff of HI PRECISION in Rockwell. I took the test at barely 11 weeks this time and in a few days we were able to determine the gender and health of Baby 2! We are having a BABY GIRL!!!

My OB Gyne, Dr. Cora De Jesus (she practices in Asian Hospital and St Luke BGC), actually highly recommended this test and was very pleased that I took the initiative to take it on my own. I also received a lot of inquiries about the test via email from my followers on Instagram, so I decided to give you a bit of a backgrounder here on the blog.

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about the test that our friends from HI PRECISION DIAGNOSTICS have been kind enough to answer for us. You may find more information through the official website 🙂

Panorama is a market-leading noninvasive prenatal screening test (NIPT) that reveals your baby’s risk for genetic disorders as early as nine weeks. Panorama analyzes baby’s (placental) DNA through a simple blood draw from the mother’s arm.

This is the only NIPT that differentiates mother from baby using the power of SNPs. They were recently awarded the 2017 Edison award: http://www.edisonawards. com/winners2017.php

Is the latest version available in the country?

The version available in all HI PRECISION CENTERS in the Philippines is VERSION 3, making it the best version to date. This version has higher sensitivity and PPV and lower redraw rates. It is a highly validated test with over 1 million patient samples having been run over the world.

Who can take the test?

Any woman who is confirmed to be expecting a child at any age can take this test.  Panorama has been validated in women both below and above 30, and is beneficial for pregnant ladies of all ages as per guidelines.

Panorama is now also available for twins! It can give individual gender call (e.g. one boy and one girl) for dizygotic (fraternal) twins.  I highly encourage you to consider Panorama because it gives you a lot of information (including gender) of EACH twin! That’s what most other tests cant do! Read more HERE.

Why should I take this Prenatal Test?

As early as nine weeks into your pregnancy, a simple blood draw can tell you if your baby is at higher risk for having Down syndrome and other common genetic conditions, as well as the gender of your baby. Non-invasive and highly accurate, Panorama identifies more than 99% of pregnancies affected with Down syndrome and has the lowest reported false positive rate of any prenatal screening test for the commonly screened chromosomal abnormalities: trisomy 21, trisomy 18, and trisomy 13.

Panorama Microdeletions panel includes the 5 most clinically relevant microdeletions, including DiGeorge (22q11.2), the incidence of which is independent of mother’s age. (1/1000, second only to T21 incidence and more common than T18 and T13). In fact, data shows that in women under 28, the incidence of DiGeorge is higher than the incidence of T21.

And of course, you can also find out the gender of your baby as early as 9 weeks! How exciting right? However, for those who’d like to keep it a surprise until the end—you may opt not to have a gender reveal.

Where can I access this test and how long before I see the results?

You can visit any HI PRECISION DIAGNOSTICS branch. The test can be administered on Mondays to Wednesday. Since the results are directly sent to the accredited laboratories and facilities in the United States from the Philippines, this could take about 10-14 days. You will be notified as soon as your results have been received.

How much for this test?

The price range is between Php30,000-37,000 per test.

While I do understand that there are some hesitations when it comes to tests like these, I would like to encourage parents out there to at least consider it. You can do more research about it, ask your health care providers for more information, and discuss it with other parents as well. From there you can gauge if this is something that would work for your family.

But for me personally, knowing the health of my unborn child was important because I wanted to be prepared. It helped me so much during my pregnancy with Theo because somehow I felt that it gave me a starting point as a mom. Like a light bulb was turned on in a dark room. The information shed so much light on things that seemed daunting to me as a new mom and really helped set the tone for me and Patrick as parents. So it was necessary for me to do it again for Baby#2! It’s just one of those things that I really can personally vouch for because of my personal experience.

Although you can never fully prepare yourself for parenthood (as it is highly unpredictable for even the most responsible&OC of moms!), knowing the makeup and composition of your child can prove useful in preparing to love your unique baby fully and wholeheartedly! The results are there to equip and empower you as parents for the road ahead. So whether it swings this way or that way, you can be sure that the information handed to you will serve as a guide for how you can be the best mom (and/or best dad) for this child. I’ve always believed that ALL CHILDREN are blessings, ALL CHILDREN are special, ALL CHILDREN deserved to be loved fully and completely. There are no exceptions. And taking a test like this is just validation of that. Visit to find a branch near you 🙂
