The Marketplace

Supermarketing has long been one of my favorite activities. What’s not to love about the supermarket??? Food—GLORIOUS, SUMPTUOUS Food all in one place! Next to restaurants, this should be every foodie’s happy place.

I used to get teased a lot back in college for my very “manang” hang out choice. My sister would blow her weekly allowance on a Mango dress and I would set aside my extra cash for—groceries!!!! Hahaha!:) This supermarket obsession of mine is still very much alive—actually even more so now that I’m a misis. And because I’m slowly learning how to cook and prepare meals, supermarketing has a whole new meaning in my life right now.

Since I like our meats, fruits and vegetables fresh, I go to the supermarket at least once a week. If it’s a very busy work month, sometimes I’ll get supplies to last us for a week and a half. Since I run a household of two (ang dami noh?!), I try to limit my purchases and budget the proportions of my groceries just to make sure I don’t overspend and that the food won’t go to waste. It’s actually quite tricky and I’m still figuring it out 🙂 Any tips guys??? Help a clueless sister out, will you?

A few nights ago, we watched a movie in Rockwell with our friends. And on our way up to the cinemas I was thrilled to see the newly renovated Rustans Supermarket—now called MARKETPLACE! I actually heard angels singing in my head (topak alert!)—it was just sooooo puh-retty!!!!!! So I cleared my schedule for the week and dedicated one afternoon to a trip to Marketplace! Hahaha, how very domesticated of me 🙂 🙂 Kinikilig talaga ako sa bagong grocery! The sales clerks were looking at me in a weird way the whole time because I kept taking photos with my iPhone! I was so busy stalking the produce!

I love the layout of the whole Marketplace—the aisles are well lit and properly labeled, products are neatly displayed (in fact, some are even styled! may arte arte pa!), check out counters allow multiple customers to be serviced simultaneously, and..and..and…they have an incredible CHEESE SELECTION!!! Yun na! SOLD!!! They had my favorites: Camembert, Manchego, Gouda, Brie, even several variants of Kesong Puti! I think I found THE ONE, guys. This is now my HAPPY PLACE. Marketplace, I love you already. Anyway, here are my grocery stalking photos 🙂 🙂 Visit Marketplace by Rustans in Powerplant Mall, Rockwell now 🙂

  1. I live in Sydney and cook for my lunch and dinner every day. I plan my weekly meals so that the ingredients I buy are (re)usable for other not-necessarily-similar meals. Example: Fresh mint and parsley for potato stew can also be used for Lemon Zest Pasta. 🙂

  2. Knowing which item to buy from which store makes a world of difference. It maybe time consuming and extra gastos on fare, it’s super worth it! All the discoveries would broaden your new title as a wife and eventually mom! Plus you travel almost anywhere I’m sure you’d figure it all out in no time. Key is coming up with easy to do menus. I’d love to share some ideas. Basta you’d be surprised, you’d end up spending less and yet being able to source out top quality products in the market. You and your family only deserve the best!

  3. Haha! I love your post! Happy, relaxing place ko rin yung grocery. I’ll check this place out although we have na Rustans sa katipunan. Interiors are pretty also 🙂
