The Pig Pen Cafe

A casual all-day dining spot in Nuvali, The Pig Pen Cafe, is another brainchild of Chef Carlos Garcia and his partners Tricia MacDonald and Berna Garriz. If you recall, Chef Carlos is the man behind Alabang’s favorite hang out spot “The Black Pig”. The Pig Pen Cafe however is much more laid back where you can come and dine in shorts and sneakers, like a true Southerner! (South girls are always casually dressed! I think it’s the Cali lifestyle of Manila).

The urban-chic interiors in wood, gray, and black go hand-in-hand with their very hip menu. They have a selection of charcuterie, rice bowls, pasta plates, deli inspired sandwiches, and colorful salads. And their drinks list is just as promising, with fresh juice blends, flirty cocktails (I loved the Sangria!), and Yardstick coffee which goes well with their desserts. They are proud to make almost everything from scratch using only the freshest ingredients available. According to Berna, the restaurant gives you the best of both worlds—providing comfort food that’s tasty and flavorful but made with premium ingredients.

My top 5 favorites from the restaurant were: 1) The European Salad, colorful, vibrant and so fresh! You could feel the crunch of the veggies in each bite. The dressing worked well with the greens, not at all overpowering. 2) Onion Rings—Ohhh I loved this!!! Not the standard way of preparing Onion Rings—this comes in thin ribbons and are so yummy to snack on while waiting for the mains to arrive. 3) Pork Belly Kimchi Rice Bowl, if you’re a rice lover than this one will appeal to you. It’s possibly the most photogenic dish in the restaurant and super flavorful too! 4) Pulled Pork Cannelloni was another hit for me! It was so delicious, I wanted to order more! Next time, I’ll get one all for myself and no sharing allowed! Hahaha 🙂 🙂 5)Mufaletta sandwich, a New Orleans inspired power sandwich that can get quite filling. I think Patrick would love this! The menu has quite a deep bench so you can try anything depending on your mood. They also sell fruit and granola cups for those who want to shed the pounds in time for Laboracay! Hehehe!

Thank you also to Theo’s posse, Ate MaiMai, Ate Marivic and Manong Jesse for being our dates in Nuvali 🙂 It was nice to have a pasyal day with them and Theo–and all of us complete!

Thanks again Berna for having us for lunch 🙂 I loved meeting you and all your friends too! The Pig Pen is located on the ground floor of Solenad Mall in Nuvali Sta. Rosa. And just above it on the 2nd floor is the Esencia Day Spa which I will be blogging about on Patty’s picks next!

  1. OMG, yes to Esencia! My sisters and I super love their massages! And not just because the owner’s our neighbor; there’s really something special with the strokes they use and the overall relaxation you get after each massage. <3
