The Sexiest You Can Be


Bikini season is just a few months away and everyone seems to be prepping for Boracay/Palawan/Cebu all over FB and Instagram. I do admire these people who have goals in mind and kudos to them for sticking to a program. I hope I had that discipline too. Like I mentioned in a few posts back, I too want to rock a bikini body—but more than anything I want people to see a happier, fitter, and healthier me this 2014.

“I wish I had smaller boobs” “I wish I had a bigger butt” “I wish I didn’t have this jiggle in my belly” “I wish my legs were longer” “I wish I had more curves”  I WISH I WISH I WISH. We can be our own harshest critic at times. Just one look in the mirror and it instantly opens the floodgates with a never-ending wishlist of things we don’t have. I feel you, sister. There are days when I just wish I had Miranda Kerr’s legs, Natalie Portmans nose, and Olivia Palermo’s closet. But then I’m reminded that I am fearfully and wonderfully made by God—packaged ever so nicely in this petite and curvy body of mine. I’m not “thin”, I’m not “fat”, I’m in MY SHAPE. 

It’s dangerous on both spectrums really. When you are too obsessed with looking like someone else or if you keep fantasizing with a peg in mind, you become consumed with self-doubt, a lack of appreciation for what God has already blessed you with, and an overall feeling of BLEHK. On the other hand, when you join the “I don’t care what you think, it’s my body and I’ll do what I want with it” then you become hazardous to your own self. You end up becoming a reckless steward of your body by taking it for granted. You keep losing/gaining weight carelessly, damaging your organs, and in the process you become physically, emotionally and mentally stunted. I’ve found myself on both spectrums over the years and so I always pray that God puts me in a healthier state of mind when it comes to understanding and caring for my body.

My relationship with FOOD has become much more passionate and interesting this past week alone. Like I mentioned, I started on the Daniel Plan (and coincidentally also signed up for the Prayer/Fasting week of VCF). Although I have to admit, it hasn’t been a breeze. I’ve had a lot of missteps here and there which I allow myself to have.  Inaamoy ko nga yung chocolates dito like a crazy woman! Thankfully I’m not a perfectionist so my approach is much more relaxed. Kung magkamali, eh di magkamali. I’m doing it slowly so the change won’t occur overnight. I don’t want to police myself too much and turn into a super health and fitness freak. If I’m at a social gathering and a friend of mine slaved away in the kitchen all day to prepare a decadent chocolate cake, I will go ahead an indulge in it because I want to celebrate my friend’s labor of love. Sure, it’s not the healthiest thing to eat—but it won’t hurt to live a little! It’s all about balance, indulging in a few treats here and there and injecting healthier goodies as much as you can in each meal. I just like this general feeling of wanting to do something good for my body for a change. I don’t feel like I’m dieting, I don’t feel like I’m depriving myself—in fact, I feel like I’m loving my body even more when I’m eating better.  Finally, I get it 🙂 And at 30, I feel stronger and more confident in my eating habits.

I’ve stressed this a bajillion times already but I will repeat myself again for the sake of those girls who are too scared to squeeze into a bikini. Don’t aim to change your body type—aim to love the shape that you’re in and find a way to reach your most balanced proportions. If you’re naturally skinny, then aim to be HEALTHIER and SLIM. If you’re naturally full figured, then aim to be a HEALTHIER and FIT version of your voluptuous self. When you’ve found your healthiest state and happiest weight, then it’s time to find a swimsuit that will enhance your natural gifts.
