Travel Tuesday: Family Staycation

For this week’s Travel Tuesday, I decided to go local–actually, let’s narrow it further and go municipal! Planning a vacation in the middle of a busy work month is close to impossible–just getting a leave from your boss is a nightmare in itself. At kung ubos na lahat ng sakit-sakitan leaves mo, chances are you’re left with just two days: Saturday and Sunday. So why not try a “Staycation”? The first time I heard this term was through an email invitation I received from the Acacia Hotel in Alabang. The idea is simple yet brilliant–book a night or two at a nice hotel and you instantly have a mini vacation without having to book a flight! The ultimate “Oo nga noh! Why didn’t I think of that?!” moment.
Although the Acacia Hotel is literally 5 minutes away from my village–it’s still nice to check in to a comfortable hotel to enjoy the plush bed, fluffy pillows, take a dip in the jacuzzi, and order something randomly awesome like french fries and a banana split via room service. You don’t have to travel far to go on a vacation, just an overnighter will serve as a good way to unwind with family. Since the hotel is just a quick drive from the house, this makes it easier to plan an impromtu family bonding session. I called Cecil and asked her “Ces, what are your plans this weekend?” and she enumerated all the errands she had to do–which included a trip to the supermarket to which I exclaimed “Perfect! After you do your groceries we can check in at Acacia Hotel which is just a few steps away! Let’s goooo!!!”. And just like that the Acacia Staycation made it’s way to her to-do-list as well! Hahaha.
The month of MAY is a month of celebrations for the Laurels and Filarts with a wedding anniversary, multiple birthdays and of course MOTHER’S Day to hip-hip-hooraayyy for..so a STAYCATION for our family seemed like the perfect plan for the weekend. Just reviewing the promo details got me all giddy. It was a full weekend of activities that included an overnight stay at the Luxurious Junior Suite, a Wine&Tapas buffet, a Mother’s Day Brunch, a 70s Dance Party (for the parentals) PLUS a Barbecue Cook Out for the whole fam under the stars. I appreciate hotels that make an effort to create fun in-house activities for their guests just to make sure that it doesn’t become just another snooze fest weekend.
The highlight of our entire “Staycation” experience was the Barbecue Sundown Cookout. We enjoyed our dinner al fresco at the Samanea garden by the pool side. We had freshly grilled prawns, steak, lamb, chicken, fish and a host of different sidings from salads, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, grilled vegetables. OH and of course, a whole selection of delectable DESSERTS!!!
I’d like to commend the professional and accommodating waiters and cooks for making our family dinner truly memorable. The Acacia Hotel offers special Staycation and Al Fresco Dining promos throughout the year but if you would like to do something unique for your family and friends, you can simply give them a call and they can help you come up with a customized package for your special occasion.
We ate and ate and ate–and laughed and laughed and laughed–which is not exactly ideal as this is the formula for indigestion! Uh-Oh 🙂 By the end of the night, my tummy was bigger than Cecil’s..and mind you, she’s pregnant! Well, technically I was preggers too–I had a 4 month old FOOD BABY inside of me. Imagine me at the hospital “It’s a BOY–as in BABOY!”  Hahaha!
The following night, my parents attended the 70s Disco Night at the hotel and danced like teenagers with their friends. It was a full weekend for the family and the best part–we didn’t even have to spend for airfare or gas! I’m a big advocate of TRAVEL and exploration, but if you don’t have the time and budget to take an out of towner trip–then a Staycation is something I would highly recommend.

  1. can’t seem to see where to click like and tweet? So sorry I’m such a newbie to these things. I really wanna give this @AcaciaHotels a try since I can never afford otherwise. I’ll be coming home FINALLY after 2 years of labor here in Saudi Arabia and will be celebrating 6 years of love and friendship with my habibi(arabic for love). And though we may not have much in life, we have more than enough in love and blessings.

You are my go-to blog whenever I am lonely and tired. Its as if you’re a close friend (sorry feeling close ako, haha) whom I just have to connect each day. You have a humor that’s so nakakahawa, it makes me wonder if you’ve ever been serious, hehehe. I’m sure you are such a positive light to the people around you.

Thank you for your blog. Keep inspiring people. sending all my love from the Arabian dessert. I have no idea if you’ll be able to read this. *crossing my fingers* if you do, that would be AWESOME 🙂
